When Faith is all you have

This month as we talk about faith, I keep thinking about people who've lost faith, and how easy it is for some to lose it.

However, there are others who truly live by faith.  It's all they have.  You might know them.  They don't necessarily have the "best" life as the world may ascribe, yet they have tremendous faith - that God is at work, and is working in them regardless of circumstances.

I go back to "heroes of the faith" in the Bible - Abraham, Ruth, Moses, David, Jeremiah....then on to Jesus and the early church.  God certainly didn't lay out road map for their lives, or give them constant worldly success.  Yet they maintained....and grew.... tremendous faith.

Take David.  Many people, even his own son, sought to harm his life.  Enemies surrounded him.  He was run off from the kingdom God had promised.  Yet he always looked to God.  In Psalms 56: 1-4, David writes - "Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled upon me; fighting all day long he oppresses me.  My foes have trampled upon me all day long.  For they are many who fight proudly against me.  When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.  In God, who word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid.  What can mere man do to me?"

Sunday, the sermon is:  "Living by Faith, when Faith is all you have."  For some, faith may be all you have right now.  At Bellwether we hope you'll know that you can have it.  God wants you to have it.  And if something besides faith is keeping you going (career, relationships, family, money, etc) there will come a day when that simply won't be enough.  You'll need real faith in something bigger than this world.  We hope you will see it, find it, and live it.

Have a great weekend, and hope to see you Sunday.
